  • There’s a new book coming out in 2025 that I’ve been tracking for some time – it’s called Participatory Grantmaking in Philanthropy, and it’s edited by Cynthia Gibson, Chris Cardona, Jasmine McGinnis Johnson, and David Suárez.
  • This book stems from a set of Ford Foundation case studies of various PGM projects, ranging from mainstays like Disability Rights Fund to the Global Greengrants Fund to experiments in giving circles.
  • One angle I’m excited about is the book’s inclusion of perspectives from “conservative philanthropy”. Cynthia Gibson in particular has long made the case that advocates of PGM need to interface more with the small-c conservative, populist side of the philanthropy reform movement. I think it’s a case worth considering.
