Money moves in mysterious ways in philanthropy. We define grassroots grantmaking as funding practices that shift power to the grassroots – ranging from participatory grantmaking and participatory philanthropy to trust-based philanthropy, flow funding, feminist philanthropy, and more. We hope to put language around concepts that are increasingly swirling around the halls of funder conferences and foundation board rooms.
Proximate is an independent media platform covering movements for participatory problem-solving. We look at the news through the lens of money: how it’s given away, how it’s invested, and how it’s distributed by government.
